Set a smartphone to FTM (Field Test Mode)

Procedure may be different for some types of ZTE smartphones

General procedure:

  1. Switch the device off.
  2. Press Volume Down and Power On buttons simultaneously until you see "FTM" message on the phone's screen.

Alternative way:

  1. Switch the device off.
  2. Press Volume Down, End Call and Power On buttons simultaneously until you see "FTM" message on the phone's screen.

* If you can't enter FTM mode, turn the phone ON, dial *983*87274# and choose "only Diag".


ZTE tablets: V9, V9+, Light Tab 2, Vodafone Smart Tab 7 / 10

  1. Switch the device off.
  2. Press Volume Up and Power On buttons simultaneously until you see "FTM" message on the phone's screen.
Set a smartphone to Download Mode

In order to service some firmware versions of ZTE smartphones, you should connect them in the Download Mode.

Here are some of the versions:

  • T790: ICS_P752A20V1.0.0B09
  • Blade 3:
    • ICS_P772N10_MTSV1.0.0B01
    • ICS_P772N10V1.0.0B12
  • Orange Zali / Kis Pro:
    • ORO_RO_P752D20V1.0.0B02
    • ORO_RO_P752D20V1.0.0B03
  • Open:
    • B2G_P752D04V1.1.0B02_TME
    • B2G_P752D04V1.1.0B13_MOVISTAR

How to set the smartphone to Download Mode

  1. Switch the device OFF
  2. Remove the flash card from the phone
  3. Press and hold down Vol -, Vol + buttons simultaneously, then press and hold Power until your phone completely freezes

Unlock

Direct unlock
  1. Select "Qualcomm" platform from the tab menu in upper left side of the software
  2. "Phone model" dropdown box has to be set to "Autodetect"
  3. Go to "Unlock" tab
  4. Install required Android USB Driver Installer (only if the phone is connected for the first time)
  5. Set the phone to "FTM" mode
  6. Connect the phone to PC with USB cable
  7. Select USB Modem port in the ports selection tab
  8. Press "Unlock" button*
  9. Wait for the message "Restarting phone... Done" to appear in the dialog window; only after that you can turn the phone off

* ZTE smartphones with old security can have two different lock types, so direct unlock might require two attempts. During unlock procedure you will be asked to select first or second unlocking method. If the chosen method will not unlock your device, try another one.


* In case of unknown firmware version detection, the software will suggest unlocking the phone using the heuristic method. In the end of heuristic unlock mode procedure, please send the log file to support.

Get unlock codes
  1. Select "Qualcomm" platform from the tab menu in upper left side of the software
  2. "Phone model" dropdown box has to be set to "Autodetect"
  3. Go to "Unlock" tab
  4. Install required Android USB Driver Installer (only if the phone is connected for the first time)
  5. Set the phone to "FTM" mode
  6. Connect the phone to PC with USB cable
  7. Select USB Modem port Interface in the ports selection tab
  8. Press "Get Unlock Codes" button

For ZTE smartphones the software doesn't show unlock codes. It shows Lock Status and a number of available code entry attempts near each type of code.
Closed lock: active unlock code
Open lock: inactive unlock code

Direct unlock for ZTE Startext II / N720 / N721 / V6000 / Vtelca N720/ Style Q / Onda TQ150 / Sfr Starnaute 2
  1. Select "Qualcomm" platform from the tab menu in the upper left side of the software
  2. "Phone model" dropdown box has to be set to "Autodetect"
  3. Go to "Unlock" tab
  4. Connect turned ON phone to PC with USB cable
  5. Install required drivers (drivers will be installed from the phone automatically) only if the phone is connected for the first time
  6. Select USB Diagnostic Port in the ports selection tab
  7. Press "Unlock" button *
Direct Unlock procedure for Orange Boston
  • Select "Qualcomm" platform from the tab menu in upper left side of the software
  • "Phone model" dropdown menu has to be set to "Autodetect"
  • Go to "Unlock" tab
  • Set the phone to "Recovery" mode:
    1. Turn the phone OFF
    2. Press Vol + , Camera, Power ON, then insert USB cable into the phone
  • Install required USB Driver (only if the phone is connected for the first time)
    • If the software won't show "modem port" in the ports selection menu, install other drivers
  • Select USB Modem port in the ports selection tab
  • Press "Unlock" button
  • Wait for the message "Restarting phone... Done" to appear in the dialog window; only after that you can disconnect the phone

Heuristic method of unlocking is supported for this group of models.

Wrong Code Counter resets automatically during the direct unlock procedure.

Direct Unlock procedure for Orange Nivo
  1. Select "Qualcomm" platform from the tab menu in upper left side of the software
  2. Set "Phone model" dropdown to "Autodetect" value
  3. Go to "Unlock" tab
  4. Connect a phone to PC with USB cable
  5. Adjust USB Settings on the phone:
    a. Go to Notifications (by touching the notifications bar at the top of the phone's screen and dragging it down)
    b. touch the USB connection notification
    c. select "media device MTP"
    d. then select "normal NML"
  6. Select "Coolpad Android Diagnostics USB VCOM port"
  7. Press "Direct unlock" button
  8. Wait for the message "Restarting phone... Done" to appear in the dialog window; only after that turn the phone off.

Repair

Repair IMEI
  1. Select "Qualcomm" platform from the tab menu in upper left side of the software
  2. "Phone model" dropdown box has to be set to "Autodetect"
  3. Go to "IMEI" tab
  4. Install required Android USB Driver Installer (only if the phone is connected for the first time)
  5. Set the phone to "FTM" mode
  6. Connect the phone to PC with USB cable
  7. Select USB Modem port in the ports selection tab
  8. Enter IMEI number in the "Phone IMEI" field
  9. Press "Restore IMEI" button
  10. The message "Done" indicates that procedure was completed successfully
  11. Wait for the message "Restarting phone... Done" to appear in the dialog window; only after that you can turn the phone off
Repair IMEI for V889F / V880G / V955 / A2 / Blade G / N881F / N8881E / Blade III Pro + Blade V / V956 / N880F / N880G / N881E / N909 / T40
  1. Select "Qualcomm" platform from the tab menu in upper left side of the software
  2. "Phone model" dropdown box has to be set to "Autodetect"
  3. Go to "IMEI" tab
  4. Set the phone to "Download" mode:
    1. Turn the phone OFF
    2. Press and hold Vol+ Vol- then insert USB cable into the phone
  5. Install required USB Driver Installer (only if the phone is connected for the first time)
  6. Select USB Modem port in the ports selection tab
  7. Enter IMEI number in the "Phone IMEI" field
  8. Press "Restore IMEI"
  9. The message "Done" indicates that procedure was completed successfully
  10. Wait for the message "Restarting phone... Done" to appear in the dialog window; only after that you can disconnect the phone

Reminder! Before servicing the phone, please make sure that:

  1. You use the latest version of the software
  2. Battery must be connected to the phone's board and fully charged. Especially while performing operations using testpoint.
  3. All the side programs, that may interfere with the phone, are closed
  4. Phone’s cable and device itself should not be disconnected or disturbed until the procedure is fully completed
  5. Connect phone to USB port placed on the backside of PC (motherboard's USB port)
    Do not connect or disconnect other USB cables into the PC during the actual work with the phone
  6. Avoid using any kind of USB HUBs and long USB cables. Use the shortest-length USB cable available.
  7. Phone has stock (factory) firmware version
  8. SIM card is removed
